Documentary Season

As basketball fans, our access to documentaries about this game is very limited, simply because we don’t have many. On the other hand, several basketball documentaries have been produced recently, no doubt that’s exciting news of course.
First two ones are success stories, but rest of them have very interesting subjects and personally I can’t wait for them. Spain and France national teams were on top of Europe last September. Their Lithuania journey has been filmed with various inside stuff about them.

You can watch the full production of “Héroes de Oro” via this link, but special focus on 22:00, our hero doesn’t surprise of course.
These two above are something we kind of used to, however, rest are about more. More importantly, subjects are as interesting as ESPN’s 30 for 30 series but not quite popular things in general.
Besides the so-called heroes of last summer of course after FYROM, the heroes supposed to be, takes stage. The other dream team started their home tournament campaign with probably the worst roster they have ever had since the country became independent. But, expectations were still high because the whole nation breathe nothing else than the game itself. Their best player, even if I’m not a big fan of him, got injured before the preparation period. Their legend had a bad season and it has been a while since he past his prime. Under such difficult conditions, how emotions changed day by day, must be a hell of a story. What’s more, the producers who made a huge effort to bring this film up, need support and if you would like to help, you can do via their website. And last but not the least, not just one but two Lavrinovic brothers take place.

Another Eurobasket journey includes one of our favorite guys as Euro-Step crew, Tomas van den Spiegel. Belgium basketball solidifies its place in Europe every day. Looking beyond this colorful team was interesting enough already but it offers more, it focuses on maybe the most essential side of the sports, high dose of drama. Trailer just looks great, whole movie must be crushing.

As we can see, Eurobasket Lithuania has been fairly productive but the variety goes beyond it. “Phoenix in der Asche” (“No Ashes – No Phoenix”) brings the story of a German team, Phoenix Hagen. The documentary is about the first year of the Hagen side at Bundesliga and how they achieved to stay on the top level after battling around the relegation zone. It looks like a nice, warm story after the trailer. Plus, you can find a review of the film by Heinnews.

Basketball is little on the background for the last documentary. “The Iran Job” tells us Kevin Sheppard’s Iran experience from a Western stand point. I hope it helps some people to be less biased about things that they really don’t know, explore a new world and reconsider their prejudices. More detailed information is on the website.

Enjoy it!
